2013 will bring a new crop of Disney Channel shows and hopefully some new Disney Channel and Disney XD stars. Have you always wanted to tryout for the Disney Channel, well read on.
Are you the next big Disney Channel star? You just may be and are looking to be discovered. Well, Disney Channel and their casting team go on the lookout for new talent and every year the Disney casting team holds tryouts and casting calls for new talent.
Every kid and teen dreams of becoming the next big Disney Channel singing, dancing and acting sensation. Why not? Those are great dreams and aspirations. Who wouldn’t want the fame and fortune? If you sing, dance and act, yes, a triple threat, you too may have a chance at the big time because Disney does open casting calls for new talent yearly.
About once a year, the Disney team announces an open casting call in a city in the United States. Not necessarily New York or Los Angeles, but other, smaller cities such as Austin Texas.
These auditions for Disney bring together 1000’s of kids, tweens, and teens to tryout for casting directors. Usually, the casting directors do not say exactly what project they are casting for and just want to see the talent that comes out.
It is the only official Disney open casting call they do and there is never a charge for it. In 2012 it was held in May. The 2013 Disney auditions have not been announced yet but in previous years they have been held in the spring and announced a few weeks prior to the tryouts taking place. Last year the open call was held in Kansas City on May 26th.
The last call was searching for talented kids and teens who were 10 to 18 years of age who could act, sing and dance.
These annual tryouts give talented youth, who do not live in Los Angeles a chance to meet with Disney representatives and show them what they can do and their ‘star’ quality. Some big Disney stars have been discovered at these Disney Tryouts. Selena Gomez was scouted at an event in 2004. Selena Gomez went on to become a huge Disney Channel sensation who appeared in a hit show, had multiple guest spots on other shows in the Disney Channel lineup and even had parts in movies.
Adding to their line up of already hit shows such as “Shake it Up”, “Austin and Ally”, “Good Luck Charlie” and “A.N.T Farm”, in 2012 Disney announced new shows which include Gravity Falls, Code: 9, Dog With a Blog
In 2013 the channel announced another show to be premiering soon, Wander Over Yonder.
Disney also casts for upcoming Disney movies, here are some Disney movies that will be cast and shot shortly, to be released in 2013 and 2014.

Hopefully, more shows are also in the works and the new 2013 / 2014 shows need stars, supporting roles and many extras.
Unfortunately the Disney tryouts are done in person which means that you and your family would need to travel to where they announce the location will be, usually a large convention center. They do not do online auditions or take submissions by email.
If you are planning to attend one of these large events in hopes of getting discovered then you must make arrangements ahead of time to travel to the city. Having a parent present is a requirement and kids will not be seen unless they are with a parent or guardian.
Many families even try to make a small vacation out of these events by booking hotel rooms for longer than the auditions to take advantage of being in a new city.
During the Disney tryouts expect huge crowds, remember many people travel from out of town to audition. Most kids get about a minute in front of the casting directors so you really need to wow them and wow them quickly. Remember there will be a lot of competition and you really need to stand out in a crowd of 1000’s.
So remember, the open tryouts should be coming up real soon. Everyone can attend for free and all you have to do is keep your eyes open for the date and of course, ‘break a leg’ to get noticed by the casting director!
