Be on Rip The Runway 2012
Rip The Runway is a popular fashion event broadcast on BET. Every year Rip The Runway holds a fashion event that showcases ethnic models on the catwalk. The show has in past years held a model casting call to select amateur models to walk the catwalk in New York.
The show uses both male and female models and though most of the models are African American, they do use a few models of other ethnicities. The models wear fashions that are created by the designers the show features, usually a mix of established and up and coming designers. Last year the featured designers were Rachel Roy, WISB, Man Vs. Machine, Tennille

White, LaQuan Smith and Lila Nikole.
Rip The Runway also focuses on music and has musical performances by top artists. Rip The Runway combines live music, a live audience and a fashion event all broadcast as a BET special.
Rip The Runway has been held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Models tryouts for Rip The Runway are done through the designers, BET and often times through an open casting call for models.
To tryout to model on Rip The Runway, look at the following requirements:
- Models must be 18 years or older to participate in the casting.
- Female models must be 5’8″ or taller
- 2 categories of female models, plus size (10 to 22) and regular (2 to6)
- Any ethnicity
- Models must be comfortable with dancing on the runway.
- Male models must be 6’0″ or taller
The above requirements are from a previous audition that Rip The Runway held. Models who fit the specifications then mailed in their information and pictures. Casting directors and who booked the models for the show, would then choose who to interview and put on the show.

I’ve been wanting to be a model since I was in 3rd grade and my school was having a show. They picked me to model for them and it was like the best feeling in world. When I’m on that runway, I just feel free and forget about all my problems. It’s my lil world. I’ts the best feeling, modeling. I love it so much and I want to be a proffessional. When I’m on that runway everything goes away, its just great. I will do everything to be a model.
