Every year, the Disney Channel hosts one or 2 cattle calls for upcoming projects. Casting directors hold an event to meet with potential new child stars and their parents. The first such event has just been announced and it will be held in Kansas City at the Kansas City Convention Center on May 26, 2012.

2012 / 2013 Disney Casting

These open calls are not meant to fill any specific role or none that that they wish to release, they are designed to scout new, young talent that they can later cast into their new shows, pilots and original movies that are in the works.

These annual cattle calls give hopefuls who do not live in Los Angeles a chance to meet with Disney representatives and show them their talents. In 2004, Selena Gomez was scouted at one of these events and she went on to become a huge Disney Channel star that appeared in multiple Disney projects, shows and movies.

Last year this event was held in Austin Texas and a second event was held in Richmond. For 2012, Kansas City is the only one that has been announced so far and we do not know if there are plans for a second one later this year.

The Disney Talent search is for kids and teenagers who are 10 to 18 years of age or at least appear to be within that age group. Representatives are looking for kids and teens who can act, sing and dance to be considered for upcoming shows and as guest stars in existing shows such as ‘Pair of Kings”, “Dog with a Blog”, “So Random”, “Austin & Ally”, “Bits and Pieces” and many others.

Please note that all kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and those that are not, will not be able to audition.

What to expect at the Disney audition

• When you get there there will be a long line to wait in. Historically, 1000′s of families attend these cattle calls and there will be very long lines to wait in. To make sure that you have a chance to be seen, make sure to arrive as early to the opening time as possible.
• Once you arrive and register, you will be given a 1 page application form that will serve as a sort of resume. You will need to provide information such as where you live, how to contact you, Your experience in acting, dance and music. Any special training you have received in acting, dance or singing.  Also, if you have an agent, you will need to provide contact information for your agent or manager.
• You will also be given a monologue that you will be expected to do for the casting directors and representatives that you see. The monologue will be short. Last year people reported that the entire audition took about a minute.
• You may be there all day, so be sure to pack a few snacks and anything you may need to be there for hours.
• As always, There is never any kind of fee for the official Disney auditions. The only fee that you will need to cover will be your parking and parking at the convention center will be $10.

Please also note that many families arrive from out of town and if you need a room for the night, you should probably reserve that as soon as you can.

Again, there is NO fee – this is the Official Disney tryout where you will meet with Disney reps and talent scouts that are looking for new talent.

Being an extra can be a lot of fun and it will also give you bragging rights about being in a movie! Most large productions will also pay their extras. Extras don’t normally make a lot of money but in this economy anything helps.

The Hobbit 2012 / 2013

If you are looking to work as an extra, 2012 is a great year to find work as an extra and get into a movie. There are so many big movies being shot now. Below is a list of all the movies that will most likely need extras. All these films will be shot in 2012 for a 2013 theatrical release.

The good news is that you don’t need to live in Hollywood to get into the movie. These films will be shot all over the U.S. and people living in many states will have a chance to participate in a film as an extra or a stand in.

There are dozens of movies shooting at any time and some of them like “Grown Ups 2″ which is now filming on the East Coast needs thousands of extras.

And remember, there should never be a fee to become an extra in a movie or TV show.  Being an extra is work and when people work, they get paid.

The Disney Channel and Disney XD have ordered a pilot for a new Disney Channel show called “Bits & Pieces”. Auditions to find the right cast for the show are being held right now.

Disney Channel sitcom fans will have a new show to look forward to in 2013!

“Bits & Pieces” is a comedy series that does something a bit different. Rather than using a traditional multi camera filming pattern. The new show will do ‘bits and pieces’, quick snippets, and a series of vignettes to tell a story that show off the stories funniest moments. This is a unique way of filming a sitcom and the show may prove to be a lot of fun.

“Bits & Pieces” is executive-produced by Andy Fickman (“The Game Plan,” “Race to Witch Mountain”) and Betsy Sullenger (“You Again”) and written by John D. Beck & Ron Hart (“Shake It Up,” “According to Jim”).

Casting for the show is under way and the show will begin filming in June of 2012. The series “Bits & Pieces” is supposed to premiere on the Disney Channel in 2013. The new show is looking for its main cast. There will be 3 boys parts and 3 girls parts. The show will also require adult actors to play the parents and extras.

Bits & Pieces is a modern day Brady Bunch, a blended family that has many comedic moments and is told from the viewpoint of a 15 year old girl, Alanna who has to adapt to her new situation of being in a much larger family with new step siblings.

About “Bits & Pieces”:

In the story, the family tree gets a whole lot bigger when high school basketball coach Pete marries the school psychologist Jodie, much to the chagrin of their four kids. Willful 15 year old, teenager Alanna recounts all the family moments through comedic vignettes, while her awkward brother Sticky and their new step siblings Crystal and Brody help fill in the bits and pieces as they begin their journey together as a new family.

The new Disney show will be produced by It’s a Laugh Productions in Los Angeles. Auditions for the show will be held in the Los Angeles area where the show will be filmed. It’s a Laugh Productions is the company that produces most of the Disney Channel and Disney XD shows.

The casting directors for the show are SHEILA GUTHRIE & SUZANNE GODDARD-SMYTHE (Principal Casting) and Central Casting will be handling the extras for the new show. A new product called Ava The Elephant is looking for a baby to feature.

AVA THE ELEPHANT is a TALKING Children’s Medicine Dispenser! AVA takes the tears out of medicine time, and turns it into giggle-time!

The product is supposed to make the job of giving your child medicine more tolerable and the dispenser is supposed to talk to keep your child entertained.The talking done by the product is just a few words to encourage your child to take their medicine. Ava is supposed to say “One, Two, Three…Open wide! GOOD JOB!” The inventor of the product went on the TV show Shark Tank (ABC) to pitch her idea.

The product is available in many stores across the nation including Babies R Us and Toys R Us.

This week, the company announced a new promotion that will allow proud parents to enter their baby online. The company is doing a internet baby photo contest to select the next face of the Ava The Elephant dispenser. Parents can snap a digital photo of their baby or toddler and upload it to the

contest.

Do you love Old Navy? Would you love to model for Old Navy? Well unfortunately there is no Old Navy Model Search or model contest, however, that does not mean that you or your baby can’t model for them. It just means that they do not have an online model submission process or online application that you can do directly.

Old Navy is a retail clothing store with many locations nationwide. As of 2012, Old Navy had hundreds of store locations and more may come in 2013 and 2014.

Old Navy is owned by The Gap and offers a casual line of clothing for babies, kids, teens, men and women. Old Navy is known for its stylish and affordable line of kids and adult clothes and is well known for their fun and family oriented TV commercials and ads.
Old Navy produces lots of marketing materials which include magazine ads, TV commercials, catalogs and internet ads. The Old Navy website features baby models, kids and adults and they are well known for their extended line of baby clothes and children’s apparel.

Old Navy was recently in the news for a modeling dilemma. Kim Kardashian was upset that Old Navy used a model that resembled her and actually tried to sue the retailer over the ad campaign.

Well, you don’t have to be Kim Kardashian to model for Old Navy. What you need to be is a model that is represented by an agent that has a relationship with the retailer. Like all retailers, Old Navy uses lots and

lots of models. Because they are very popular for baby and kids clothes, they use lots of baby models and child models. Since babies grow up quickly, new baby models are needed for Old Navy very often.

If you have a baby or child that you want to get into modeling, especially modeling for large retailers like Old Navy, Macys, JC Penny Banana Republic and the Gap, well you had better start contacting agents that can setup modeling auditions for you and your child.

If you are not sure why you need an agent, here is the reason…

Large retailers like Old Navy rarely work with individual models directly. There are just too many kids and teens who want to model and having open casting calls would be a mess. Retailers have tight deadlines for their advertising materials and prefer to work with professionals that can save them time by sending them the right models rather than having to find those

models themselves. Many shoots and castings come with very short notices and they depend on agents to send them the pre-screened and available models immediately.

The company has commented that photo shoots for babies, children and teens happen all over the country and the company prefers to use modeling agents located in the regions that they are shooting in.

The casting calls and auditions for the Hunger Games 2 Catching Fire will be coming soon. The Hunger Games was a huge success at the box office and the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire is currently in the works.

Catching Fire

Producers are wasting no time in getting the ball rolling on this one. The Hunger Games came out in 2012 and Catching  Fire is set to be released in 2013. The script for the next chapter of this post apocalyptic saga is being written right now and casting will begin soon to keep up with the 2013 release.

Catching Fire continues in the story of the survivalist teens, Katniss and Peeta. The trilogy continues and follows the events of the original movie and the nation of Panem. In Catching Fire events have unfolded that bring about an uprising and a rebellion against the oppressors has begun. Katniss returns to the Hunger Games arena one more time.

Catching Fire, brings back the all-star cast with Jennifer Lawrence coming back as Katniss Everdeen. Joining Jennifer will be Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth. Hunger Games 2: Catching fire will be directed Francis Lawrence and the screenplay will be written by Simon Beaufoy. The film is based on the novels by Suzanne Collins.

Catching Fire continues the tale of our teen heroine Katniss Everdeen. Katniss and her friends live in a futuristic world where the everything is broken up into districts. Katniss returns to District 12, her home after successfully completing the Hunger Games. In the original movie, the cast is forced to participate in the “Hunger Games” a game of survival that is televised in other districts and the participants fight for their lives for the entertainment of a wealthier class. Now, after winning the games, Katniss embarks on a Victory Tour at the same time a rebellion is forming. During all this, The president Snow announces that a special edition of the games is coming and the special edition will bring back the victors of previous games. Katniss must go back to the Hunger Games as the tribute for her district, District 12. The rebellion quickly spreads through all districts and Katniss becomes the rebellion posted child as she battles for her life in the games.

So far in 2012, The Hunger Games has been the box office leader. The film opened up in March of 2012 in over 4000 theaters and has grossed over $357 million so far. The film was so successful that it kept the top spot for about a month after its release and is still going strong.

The movie has surpassed all estimates and predictions:

The first of four “The Hunger Games” films, about teens fighting for their lives in a post-apocalyptic world, may generate $200 million in domestic box-office sales, according to Matthew Harrigan, an analyst with Wunderlich Securities in Denver who recommends the stock. The movie opens March 23.

The film actually made $152,535,747 in its opening weekend in the US and the momentum has not slowed down yet.

We are sure that the second installment, Catching Fire will do just as well if not better.

Just like the original Hunger Games, Catching Fire will need many extras giving many fans a chance to not only watch, but also participate in the movie they love so much.

The Hunger Games is turning out to be a huge franchise and 3 more films are scheduled to be created. Hopefully 2014 will bring us the Hunger Games 3 and the following year we may see a Hunger Games 4!

The Hunger Games is the #1 movie of 2012 and Catching Fire may take that spot next year in 2013. The film is set to be released in theaters in November of 2013 and filming will begin later this year.

Gymboree hires models, kids and babies to use in their commercials, catalogs, ads and internet campaigns. Most parents love the Gymboree stores. The stores are brightly colored and taylor to kids ages birth to around 12 years of age. Gymboree also offers other services within their stores such as games and music.

Gymboree offers affordable casual looks for babies and kids. Their spring 2012 collection is filled with brightly colored shorts in vibrant prints, adorable frilly dresses, sandals and many beach inspired looks for both boys and girls. Most of their clothes are made from bright cottons and easy to wear and care for.

Gymboree also has a franchise of  play centers around the world. Gymboree has expanded to over 30 countries including Bogota, Colombia; San Paulo, Brazil; Hangzhou, China; Hyderabad, India, Saudi Arabia.There are also about 300 Gymboree Play & Music centers around the globe. Often times they even hire music teachers and others for their stores and play centers.

Gymboree normally does one large casting call for kids and models every year. The stores representatives normally contact child modeling agencies and the agencies send potential baby models and their parents down to the casting call location.

Parents have claimed that the big Gymboree cattle call serves to choose the kids and babies that Gymboree will use all year long and after originally being auditioned for Gymboree, the company will use the models and call them back when they are ready for them later in the year. Since the company has clothing for newborns all the way to 12 year olds, they need models in those age groups and hire many baby models, toddlers, kids and pre-teens.

Gymboree is headquartered in San Francisco so many of the Gymboree open casting calls take place in San Francisco. So if you are looking to get your baby or child into modeling, Gymboree may be a great fit and you can ask your agent to keep an open eye for the annual Gymboree open casting call and model auditions.

Abercrombie & Fitch as well as some of their other brands like Hollister, Abercrombie Kids and Gilly Hicks have casting calls for models to model their clothing line for ads, campaigns, websites and much more. Unlike other model castings, Hollister and Abercrombie are a bit different. The company hires their employees to model for the brand.

Many of their casting calls are not open to the public, rather they are open to employees only. Yep, if you want to model for Hollister or A&F, you better get a job at their store first. Luckily, the brands have expanded so much that most malls have a A&F or Hollister store inside.

Hollister Co.(HCo), is teen oriented brand by Abercrombie & Fitch Co. The clothing line is inspired by a casual Southern California look and it was aimed at teens who are 14 to 18 years of age. Because of its teen demographic, Hollister was priced to be more affordable than its parent brand of Abercrombie & Fitch.

Hollister carries a surfer inspired decor and many of their products such as their line of body care products are named after Southern California beaches. The beach inspiration is very apparent throughout the store with the store front resembling beach shacks. The stores music selection for browsing customers is also surfer inspired.

Hollister is only one of Abercrombie’s brands. The retailer has other brands which include:

• Abercrombie & Fitch – Casual clothing for young adults
• Abercrombie Kids – A children’s clothing line
• Prep-school by Abercrombie & Fitch (Abercrombie Kids) – “classic cool” for kids 7 through 14
• Hollister Co. – SoCal inspired clothing, fragrances and accessories for teenagers 14 through 18.
• Gilly Hicks – Australian inspiration – “Down Under” – designed for adult women
• Ruehl No.925 – Upscale brand that they stopped producing in 2010 due to dissappointing sales.

Shuttered windows on A&F flagship store in NY

In 2009, Hollister built a giant NYC store. The 4 floor, 40,000 square foot clothing shop is located at 600 Broadway in the SoHo district. Since opening its flagship store, Hollister has kept expanding by opening up many stores in Canada, the U.S., Europe and the UK. Abercrombie & Fitch also has some Latin American and Asian locations.  The company now has over a dozen such giant ‘flagship’ stores for Hollister and A&F. They opened a second flagship store in New York and 3 flagship stores where opened in Asia including an A&F in Tokyo.

One interesting thing about Hillister stores are the shutters in the windows which do not allow passers by to easily see inside the store.

So, if your dream is to model for one of the Abercrombie brands like Hollister, Abercrombie Kids or Gilly Hicks, you will need to get a job in retail first. The companies website states that in order to be considered to model for Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch, you must be an employee at one of their stores. This is from their site “If you are 17 or older, you can apply for a store position at any Hollister Co. The models in our marketing start by working in our stores and then become eligible to be cast for Hollister Co. marketing campaigns.”

Unfortunately, Abercrombie is not known for being overly great to their workers. The company was actually indited into the “Sweatshop hall of shame” in 2010 for some of its labor practices. Abercrombie was added to the list which includes other large clothing retailers Gymboree, Hanes, Kohl’s, LL Bean, and Walmart.

Figure It Out is a revival of a classic Nickelodeon show that aired from 1997 to 1999. The show featured a panel made up of kids who star in a Nickelodeon series and other current Nick celebrities, who, tried to figure out what a contestants talent was using a series of clues and questions.

The show is now filming 40 episodes and is casting kids who have very unique talents that a panel will need to guess.
